Mariners capitalize off error-plagued Oak Harbor, win 10-7

Published: March 17, 2013

A nine-run second inning pushed Sehome to its third win of the season, defeating Oak Harbor 10-7 on Saturday, March 16, at Oak Harbor High School.

The Mariners, down 3-0 entering the top of the second, capitalized on six Oak Harbor errors and a hit batsman to plate nine runs in the pivotal inning.

"They just didn't make plays behind (their pitcher)," Sehome coach Gary Hatch said in a phone interview.

After Mariners' starting pitcher Jacob Manson struggled in the first, Hatch went to Brant Wark who pitched four strong innings of relief. Wark helped his cause, too, tossing in two hits to go along with Brice Longanecker's strong two-hit, two-RBI game.

"We're swinging the bats pretty consistently, picking up runners," Hatch said. "We're being aggressive and running the bases well... but we still have a boat load of things to shore up."

Sehome (3-1) is set to play Squalicum Monday, March 18, at Joe Martin Stadium.
