Slow second half downs Meridian 4-1 against Sedro

Published: March 17, 2013

The Meridian boys' soccer team fell to Sedro-Woolley 4-1 Saturday, March 16, at Meridian High School.

After heading into half-time tied at one, the Trojans ceded three goals to Sedro and never recovered.

"We played pretty well in the first half, and it was a pretty evenly matched game, but in the first 20 minutes of the second half we struggled," Meridian coach Joe Spencer said in a phone interview. "Sedro came out hard, and we didn't do what we needed to do."

Jake Birnel scored Meridian's lone goal in the 25th minute. The Trojans' (1-2) next game is on Monday, March 18, against Lynden at Bender Fields.
