Squalicum's Gabe Guidroz scored two goals and assisted on two others to propel Squalicum to a 5-3 win over Ferndale on Saturday, March 16, at Civic Stadium.
"Gabe had a spectacular game," Squalicum coach Joe McAuliffe said in a phone interview.
Ferndale struck first with an unassisted goal by Nate Fallis in the 17th minute, but goals by Guidroz and Kevin Smiley in the 21st minute gave the Storm its first lead. Ferndale's senior midfielder Michael Steele answered three minutes later with the first of his two goals in the game, bringing the game back to a 2-2 tie. The tie wouldn't last long, as Squalicum reeled off three unanswered goals to get their second win of the season.
"It was very back and forth in the first half," McAuliffe said. "I think we just slipped away with it in the second."
Ferndale (0-3) next plays at Anacortes on Monday, March 18. Squalicum's next game isn't until Wednesday, March 20, against Burlington-Edison at Civic Stadium.
