Coach: Tyler Mitchell
Last year: Finished 14th at the NWC Championships. Finished 13th at the 2A Northwest District meet. Did not have any placers at the 2A State Championships.
Returning state participants: None
Others to watch: Kathrine Dunford (fr. pole vault, mid-distance), Chynna Phan (jr. mid-distance), Arianna Giddings (sr. sprints), Rachael Hatcher (sr. distance), Kelsie Nern (jr. distance), Karisa Stapp (jr. sprints), Cameron Noe (sr. throw)
Outlook: While nearly two times the size of its boys' roster, the Mount Baker girls' team also will struggle with numbers this year, Mitchell said. But like the boys' team, the girls' have athletes capable of making a mark this spring. Included among them is Dunford - the younger sister of the defending 2A boys' pole vault champion, who Mitchell said "has learned a ton from her brother." Mitchell also is expecting big things from Phan in the middle distance events, especially the 800, while Giddings and Stapp are capable of running in the low 60s in the 400. Hatcher also is coming off a strong cross country season. "I'm expecting good things," Mitchell said. "With the success we can all achieve, it should encourage more student athletes to come out next year, and we can start getting our numbers up and rebuilding our team."
