The Nooksack Valley girls' softball team defeated Lynden 7-2 on Friday, March 15, at Lynden High School.
The Pioneers (1-0) jumped out to an early lead, plating four runs in the first and two in the third to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
"We didn't play perfect but we did some good things," Nooksack Valley coach Tom Harmon said in a phone interview. "We got some timely hits. The pitchers threw strikes and we played pretty good fundamental defense."
Kayla Struiksma and Alexis Pike combined to pitch seven innings of two-run ball, and Pike chipped in on the offensive side going 2 for 2 with 4RBI.
Lynden's Destinee Matter had two of the team's six hits.
Nooksack's next game is against Mount Baker on Tuesday, March 19, and Lynden (0-1) hosts Sehome on Monday, March 18.
