BELLINGHAM - More police will be looking for drunk drivers in Whatcom County this St. Patrick's Day weekend.
Law officers around the county and the state will join in the emphasis patrols from Thursday, March 14, to Monday, March 18. Last year in the same time span, police arrested 31 drunk drivers.
"The more people we can get the word out to, hopefully the fewer that will decide to drink and drive," said David Wright of the Whatcom County Traffic Safety Task Force. "I would love to have an emphasis patrol where we could not find any DUIs."
If people plan to go out and drink, Wright said, they should set up a designated driver in advance.
