The Ferndale softball team lost its first game of the year 2-0 at Burlington-Edison in a non-conference game Monday, March 11.
"It was the first game of the year and we struggled in the beginning to their pitcher and were chasing the ball out of the zone," Ferndale coach Holly Hilton said in a phone interview. "As it went on we got more disciplined at the plate and had runners on, and in the seventh we had the bases loaded. We've got some hope for the future."
Ferndale was led by Jacque Anderson who batted 2 for 3, and Scarlett Nyenhuis, who batted 1 for 4, and pitched the final two innings.
"Nyenhuis pitched really well," Hilton said. "We rotated her in to see people in different positions and were using it as an opportunity to take a look at some players. It was good to see them move around like they did and still play stable."
Ferndale hosts Everett in a non-conference game Tuesday, March 12.
