The Meridian softball team was unable to come back in its 6-5 loss at home to Lakewood in a non-conference game Monday, March 11.
"It was a good early season game for us," Meridian coach Tony Johnson said in a phone interview. "We had seven errors and that was a big part of it, but we can only get better."
Meridian was led by Juliana Magliano, who went 2-4 batting and had an RBI, a double and a home run, and McKenna Smith, who went 2-3 and had three RBI. Kendra Holmes added a run and an RBI and batted 1-2 for the Trojans.
"We were happy with our effort and never gave up," Johnson said. "We had the tying run on third. It was a fun game and they played hard and were enthusiastic the whole way."
The Trojans host Squalicum on Tuesday, March 11.
