The Meridian baseball team started off its season with a 6-3 win at home over Sultan in a non-conference game Monday, March 11.
The Trojans (1-0) were able to come back after giving up three runs in the first inning.
"They jumped on us and our pitcher struggled a bit," Meridian coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. "He really settled down and pitched well for the rest of the game. He was key."
Chad Richter (1-0) only allowed five hits in the complete-game shutout.
Meridian was led by Davis Phillips, who went 2 for 2 and had two RBI, and Walker Sundstrom, who went 2 for 3 and had three RBI.
"Walker had a clutch RBI in the second and Phillips had a clutch RBI in the fourth," Slesk said. "I was really happy with how we kept our composure and kept battling until something broke in the fifth inning."
Meridian will next play La Conner at home on Wednesday, March 13, in a non-conference game.
