BELLINGHAM - The Woods Coffee is planning to open its 14th coffee shop on Monday, March 18.
The new coffee shop is on Lakeway Drive, across the street from the Fred Meyer shopping center. It will have a drive-thru and a large parking area. Inside, the 1,800-square-foot space will feature a salvaged wood ceiling, old barn hardware and booth seating.
Owner Wes Herman said the Lakeway site has had more interest in the community prior to opening than any other of his cafes in recent years.
"I think it's the way we've transformed the space. Others wanted to demolish the building and start over, but we saw promise in the structure," Herman said in a news release.
The company plans to lease the remaining 2,200 square feet of space on the west side of the building. The new tenant for that space has not been announced.
The building has had a variety of tenants over the years, including Sambo's, Pizza Hut and Lychee Buffet.
