Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins was involved in an incident around 11:30 p.m. Saturday at 22nd Avenue Northeast and Northeast Ravenna Boulevard in Seattle.

Seattle police spokesman Det. Mark Jamieson said Sunday that Seferian-Jenkins’ name was one of several that officers ran background checks on Saturday night following a traffic stop.

He also said the driver was cited and processed for suspicion of drunken driving, then released, which is in keeping with SPD policy. It was unclear if Seferian-Jenkins was the driver or a passenger. A police report was not available as of Sunday.

Seferian-Jenkins was treated and released from the emergency room at Harborview Medical Center early Sunday, according to the hospital. He was not admitted.

The Saturday night incident prompted a statement from University of Washington coach Steve Sarkisian:

“We are aware of an incident that occurred Saturday evening involving Austin Seferian-Jenkins,” Sarkisian said. “We are taking the matter very seriously. Austin made decisions that fall short of our expectations for student-athletes who represent the University of Washington. He will be disciplined internally in accordance with team and departmental policies. We will continue to support Austin throughout this process, while also holding him accountable and responsible for his actions.”

The 6-foot-6, 270-pound sophomore from Gig Harbor High School holds almost every Huskies tight end record after catching 69 passes for 852 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

He holds the school tight end records for career receptions (110), receiving yards in a season and a career (1,388), touchdown receptions in a season and touchdown catches in a career (13).

At the start of spring practice last week, he told reporters he wants to become the most complete tight end in the country during his junior season.
