LYNDEN CHRISTIAN
LYNCS
Coach: Desi Luna
Last year: Finished 11th in the NWC (3-10). Won one game in the 1A Northwest District Tournament to advance to the tri-district tournament, but was eliminated there with an 8-16 record overall.
Players to watch: Truman Van Dalen (sr. P/IF), Jamie Heystek (Jr. P/SS), Grant TeVelde (sr. P/1B), Dalton Biehle (so. P/OF)
Outlook: For a program that went winless in NWC play in 2010, the Lyncs have made some giant leaps, and they look to continue that this spring. "Every year we want to keep improving," Luna said in a phone interview. "That's our objective every year. We got a little young after we lost quite a few seniors. We'll probably have an all-sophomore outfield this year, but they'll be very talented players." One area the Lyncs definitely won't be inexperienced is on the mound, with Van Dalen, TeVelde and Biehle expected to be the Lyncs' top options. "We're bringing back quite a few guys that threw quite a few innings for us," Luna said. "Defensively, I expect us to be pretty solid up the middle, too." Heystek should be a strength at short stop. Offense has been a little bit of a trouble spot for the Lyncs, though, as they averaged 1.31 runs per game in their 16 losses last year, but Luna said he believe it's an area LC will improve this season as it gets more experience. New sod in the infield and new grass in the outfield also have the Lyncs excited this spring.
