PREP BASEBALL SEASON PREVIEW: Five players to watch

Published: March 10, 2013

ALEX CHECK

Senior IF/P, Bellingham

Already committed to play at Bellevue College next year, Check is a three-year starter for the Red Raiders. He'll be at the center of their defense and offense and should even see some time on the mound.

LUKE CHRISTIANSON

Senior OF, Lynden

Already committed to play for Lower Columbia College next year, Christianson's speed allows him to get to just about anything in the vicinity of center field and makes him the NWC's most dangerous leadoff man.

TYLER KNUTSEN

Senior P/SS/3B, Sehome

Knutsen transfered from Squalicum, and the Storm's loss is certainly the Mariners' gain, especially with the loss of Austin Rapp, who is running track. Knutsen will be solid on the left side of Sehome's defense.

TANNER OLSON

Senior P/2B, Lynden

Olson, who will join Christianson at Lower Columbia College, was quietly effective at second for the Lions last year. They'll ask even more of him on the mound this year, after he went 3-1 with 1.58 ERA in 27 innings pitched as a junior.

CHAD RICHTER

Senior P/1B/OF, Meridian

Richter is one of two very talented pitchers for Meridian, along with Jeremy Brockmann, that have the Trojans hoping to get back to Yakima for a fourth straight year. He should also be a valuable part of a strong defense and an improving offense.
