Whatcom County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Bellingham resident Saturday morning, March 9, after he allegedly stabbed an acquaintance in an altercation at Mount Baker High School in Deming.

Two men were attending a girls' basketball tournament at the high school when they got into an argument around 9:45 a.m. outside the gym over a past debt one owed to the other, said Sgt. Scott Huso. The argument escalated into a fistfight, and one man pulled out a pocketknife and stabbed the other in the left shoulder.

The suspect, Larry D. Fenner II, 32, was taken into custody a short distance from the school grounds. He was booked into Whatcom County Jail for investigation of second degree assault. The victim had minor, non-life threatening injuries.

Officers from the Everson Police Department, Customs and Border Protection and Nooksack Indian Tribe Police also responded.
