Outlook: Anyone looking for Sehome's traditional attacking style of play might have to adjust their expectations this season. Given Sehome's personnel, coach John Sylvester said the young, talented Mariners will be a more "defensive-oriented" team this year. It makes sense. Sehome lost Jimmy MacQuarrie, last year's leading goal scorer, and offensive threat Alexander Kochman to graduation, and would-be junior David Abbott-Smith, who scored 10 goals and recorded 15 assists last season, is no longer with Sehome. Still, Sylvester is excited about what he's seen from senior forward Charlie Linneman and junior forward Jesse Haggen. "Charlie is on everyone's radar as an athlete after his basketball season," Sylvester said in a phone interview. "He and Jesse Haggen without question are leading the way on our attack radar." Sylvester plans to move starting defenseman JoJo Lahud-Zahner to a midfield spot, where he'll join seniors Andrew Bruce and Arie Knops in the middle third. A number of young up-and-coming defenders such as Gabe Weight, Kiefer Thomas and Zachary Wanne are vying for starting spots along the back line. "We are very excited by all the young, talented players we have," Sylvester said. "We'll have to work on team chemistry, but there is a whole crew we are excited about."
