At the beginning I was for this coal depot at Cherry Point for the sake of jobs in the area, but after spending some time down at the waterfront, I found the noise of the existing train traffic intolerable. I've noticed some train traffic comes through with nary a hoot and then most others blast their stinking air horns as if to announce to the world they are here.
Increasing this noise and traffic by 20 more trains per day would be the life of me. I see how the crossing traffic is and can wait or cross in other areas but with the 20 times the amount of trains, the waterfront could be almost impassible with waiting for two miles of train to pass.
The city of Bellingham cannot allow this noise to continue and should proceed to put an end to it by making it illegal to sound train horns through Bellingham as has been done in many other cities in this nation and even in Canada. It is not allowed in Wenatchee, Vancouver or Calgary unless it is an emergency. We should take steps to stop it here.
It is noise pollution at its worst.
