Bellingham Blazers win hockey playoff opener at Eugene

The Bellingham Blazers traveled to Eugene, Ore., and won their playoff opener 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday, March 5, in junior hockey league action.

The two teams played again Wednesday night for Game 2 of the series.

"What a great game, Eugene played real well and we got a shot through in overtime," coach Mark Collins said.

Eugene took a quick 1-0 before Bellingham's Derek Davis tied the match. Gerin Hohl scored a goal for the Blazers later in the first period for a 2-1 lead. The first period ended with the teams tied at 2-2.

Cody Rich scored a power play goal in the second period for a 3-2 lead before Eugene tied it at 3-3 later in the period.

The game remained tied into overtime before Davis scored again with an assist by Kyle Neith for the game-winner.

Cody Foster was exceptional between the pipes making 47 saves on the night, earning the win for the Blazers.
