Former Western DT signs with Jets

Published: March 7, 2013

Former Western Washington University defensive tackle Junior Aumavae signed a contract with the New York Jets last week.

Aumavae, a 6-foot-2 310-pounder, spent three years at Western, where he earned first-team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference, before the school cut football following the 2008 season. He transferred to Minnesota State Mankato, where he was selected first-team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys in 2010, but was cut in mid July. He also had workouts with the Green Bay Packers before last season.

Aumavae also has played for the Green Bay Blizzard and Fairbanks Grizzlies of the Indoor Football League and most recently was signed to play with the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League last month.
