Pairings announced for GNAC basketball tournaments

The Western Washington University men's and women's basketball teams are the top seeds for the upcoming GNAC Basketball Championships which begin Wednesday, March 6, and Thursday, March 7, at Saint Martin's University in Lacey.

The WWU men's team, ranked No. 3 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches Top 25 poll and No. 1 in the West Region rating, are 26-1 and won the GNAC regular-season title with a 17-1 mark. The Vikings, who are the NCAA Division II defending national champions, begin GNAC tourney play against the winner of Montana State Billings/Alaska Fairbanks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 8. The GNAC tourney men's championship is at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, and will be televised on ROOT Sports.

The WWU women's team, ranked No. 7 in the latest USA Today Sports/ESPN NCAA Division II Top 25 poll and No. 1 in the West Region rating, is 23-3 and on a six-game win streak. The Vikings, who won the GNAC regular-season title with a 17-1 record, will play the winner of Alaska Anchorage/Northwest Nazarene at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, March 8. The GNAC tourney women's championship game is at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, and will be televised on ROOT Sports.

The winners of the championship games earn automatic berths in the NCAA West Regionals, which begin on Friday, March 15, at sites to be determined.
