Says Slater Road drivers should slow down

Published: March 4, 2013

As we look out our kitchen window each day we look at all the traffic that is blasting back and forth on Slater Road, wondering when someone is going to get killed because of all the traffic, speed, inattention and in some cases drugs or alcohol. Last night Slater Road was closed for a couple of hours, due to yet another head on collision, second in as many months. I am usually on scene before the first responders, to make sure it is not one of our neighbors pulling in or out of their driveway, or, God forbid, that it might be one of many school buses that travel these roads everyday.

The powers that be have been out looking at installing turn lanes at intersections for years now, but nothing has been done, I guess we have to wait for a lawsuit or loss of life before they think it is truly needed. The growth at the Silver Reef Casino, Sandy Point, Lummi Island and the refineries has put a constant strain on an already overburdened throughway. Isn't it time to do something to help alleviate the increasing threat to life and property? Let's all slow down, look at the beautiful surroundings, give each other a little more space on the road and enjoy the fact that you might get home a little bit later, but at least you make it home. Thank you in advance to all, please slow down, life is too short.
