The Western Washington men's and women's basketball teams stayed atop their respective NCAA Divison II West Region rankings, which were released Wednesday, Feb. 27.
The defending champion WWU men, 25-1 and ranked No. 3 nationally, are followed by Cal Poly Pomona, Seattle Pacific, Dixie State, Grand Canyon, Cal State San Bernardino, Chaminade, San Francisco State, Alaska Anchorage and Chico State.
The WWU women, 21-3 and ranked No. 7 nationally, are followed by Simon Fraser, Chico State, Cal State Monterey Bay, Grand Canyon, UC San Diego, Northwest Nazarene, Hawaii Pacific, Alaska Anchorage and Academy of Art.
The poll will eventually help determine which five at-large teams join the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, Pacific West Conference and California Collegiate Athletic Association in the West Regional playoffs. The regional begins Friday, March 15, at a site to be determined.
Generally the top-ranked team earns the right to host the regional.
