The Whatcom County Auditor's Office has certified the results of the Feb. 12 election, in which southwest Bellingham voters approved a park district to tax property owners to help pay for the city's purchase of Chuckanut Ridge.

The measure to form the Chuckanut Community Forest Park District and elect its five commissioners went before the proposed district's voters in the special election.

The park district passed with 51.7 percent approval, and 48.3 percent voting no, according to results, which were certified Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The five elected park commissioners are Cathy McKenzie, John Hymas, Susan Kaun, Vincute (Vince) Biciunas and John Brown.

Whatcom County voters in the Concrete School District also helped renew a maintenance and operations levy for the schools.

A total of 3,794 ballots were counted for a turnout of 47 percent in the special election, according to final results.
