Ferndale High grads earns track and field honors

Western Washington University men's high jumper Brett Watson and women's long jumper Tanya Bjornsson have been selected Red Lion/Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Field Athletes of the Week for Feb. 17-23. Both are graduates of Ferndale High School.

Bjornsson, a junior, recorded the third best long jump in GNAC history, leaping 18-9 1/4 to win the event at the Seattle Pacific Last Chance meet Saturday. She bettered the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard by 8-1/4 inches.

Watson, a sophomore, won the high jump at the SPU meet by clearing a provisional qualifying height of 6-8 3/4, also the third best mark in conference history.
