LYNDEN - Cedarcrest's Susan Kenney scored seven of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, including a key 3-pointer to open the period, as the Red Wolves beat Port Angeles 49-38 in the regional round of the Class 2A State Tournament on Friday, Feb. 22, at Lynden High School.
Kailyn Campbell also recorded 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for Cedarcrest, which advanced to the state quarterfinals for the first time in school history.
The Red Wolves (22-3) led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but the Roughriders (17-6) battled back, cutting their deficit to one point with two minutes to play in the third quarter.
But Kinney opened the fourth quarter by draining a 3-pointer and then fed Kalee Fowler for another 3 on the next trip down the court, and Cedarcrest quickly went on to re-establish a double-digit lead.
Port Angeles, which was led by Macy Walker's 11 points and 10 from Maddy Hinrichs, never got closer than six the rest of the way, as the Roughriders missed out on a return trip to Yakima.
