LYNDEN - The Burlington-Edison girls' basketball team is heading to the Class 2A state quarterfinals for the fourth straight year after a dominating 53-22 victory over Olympic in the regional round on Friday, Feb. 22, at Lynden High School.
The Tigers (21-3), who are in their ninth straight state tournament, got a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds from senior post Ellary Torset, along with 12 points, six rebounds, three steals and a game-high four assists from Mariah Swanson on Friday. Sydney Brown joined them in double figures with 10 points.
Torset scored six points in each of the first two quarters to help Burlington build a 29-14 lead by halftime.
The Trojans (17-8) had as many turnovers in the first half (15) as field goal attempts, as they struggled with the Tigers' athleticism. Burlington logged 11 steals in the game.
Ashli Payne was the only Olympic player to score more than two points, as she finished with 12 to go along with her five rebounds.
