Man caught with child porn at Blaine border crossing gets 14 months

BLAINE - An Oregon man caught at the Peace Arch border crossing with explicit photos of children was sentenced this week to 14 months in prison.

Canadian border agents asked Steven Russell Harmon, 54, of Arlington, Ore., to go in for a secondary search when he tried to cross into Canada on Sept. 9, 2011.

On his laptop, agents found a series of images showing children younger than 5 engaged in sex acts with a man and graphic images of nude prepubescent girls. More than 80 explicit photos were found on the laptop, according to charging documents.

Agents seized a camcorder, a digital camera, 27 camcorder DVDs and several digital film cards.

At the time, Harmon refused to talk with police.

He pleaded guilty Thursday, Feb. 21, to two counts of possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. He must register as a sex offender following his release from prison. His lawyer told the court he plans to move back to Oregon when he gets out.

Harmon had no prior felony history.
