I admit it, I went for a bike ride instead of fishing last Saturday, but the first day of spring-like weather kicks my mind into high gear. All I can think about are my favorite spring fishing spots.

Here's my chronological order of spring fishing:

Rivers: They're almost always available, so they're my go-to for winter and early spring.

Ponds: They tend to start turning on a little earlier than reservoirs, or at least I like to think they do. I hit local ponds because they're so convenient, and they're fun to fish.

Reservoirs: This is where things really get rolling. A sunny day in a float tube with trout slamming streamers is one of my favorite trips of the season. Then there are the crazy warm-water trips when it feels like you can do no wrong catching bass, crappie and bluegill.

Of course, actual results may vary, but doesn't it get you pumped up just thinking about it?

It's coming soon, friends, unfortunately, not this weekend, which looks cold and soggy. But don't lose faith.

Note: Fish and Game is holding open houses for salmon season. Make your opinions known because early indicators are for a small run, so there may be some tradeoffs like weekend-only fishing or a small bag limit.
