The Whatcom Community College women's basketball team suffered a poor shooting night and couldn't overcome a narrow second-half deficit, as the Orcas lost 61-51 in a NWAACC game against Bellevue College Sunday, Feb. 17, in Bellevue.
Erika Locker and Bree Park each scored 13 points, and Amanda Tapia added 11 points for the Orcas before she fouled out. Whatcom shot 34 percent from the floor.
"We didn't shoot our average," WCC women's coach Sara Bergner said in a phone interview. "We played them pretty even in the first half, but the second half they jumped out to a six-point lead right away, and we couldn't get over the hump."
Park hit three 3-pointers, and Cambie Edwards recorded a team-high eight rebounds to match her eight points.
Former Sehome standout Jori Hall scored eight points for Bellevue.
Whatcom (16-8, 9-3 NWAACC) hosts Everett next at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20.
