End-of-life choices focus of free Bellingham workshops

BELLINGHAM - The Whatcom Alliance for Health Advancement has scheduled a number of free community workshops about making end-of-life choices.

Participants will learn why advance care planning is important; how to choose someone to be your durable power of attorney for health care; how to talk to loved ones and doctors about your preferences for end-of-life care; and how to complete advance directive paperwork.

The workshops will be held in three locations:

-- St. Luke's Community Health Education Center, 3333 Squalicum Parkway, near the main campus of PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.

-- Spring Creek Retirement & Assisted Living, 223 E. Bakerview Road, just east of Guide Meridian.

-- Deming Public Library, 5044 Mount Baker Highway.

Upcoming workshop dates and locations are:

-- Wednesday, Feb. 20, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Spring Creek.

-- Wednesday, March 6, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Spring Creek.

-- Tuesday, March 12, 7 to 9 p.m. at Deming Library.

-- Wednesday, March 13, 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Spring Creek.

-- Wednesday, March 20, 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Luke's.
