The Lynden Christian girls' basketball team was able to spread the scoring in its 63-21 win over University Prep in the Class 1A Tri-District semifinals Friday, Feb. 15, at Mountlake Terrace High School.
The Lyncs now advance to play Cascade Christian for the tri-district championship on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Lynnwood.
"I thought the girls did really well defensively and on the offensive boards," Lynden Christian coach Curt DeHaan said in a phone interview. "In the third quarter we shut them out and that was a strong defensive effort. I thought we were really balanced on offense."
DeHaan said Courtney Hollander and Kara Bajema got the team scoring early in the game. Both scored 10 points. Kayla Tiemersma added 12 for the Lyncs.
"We were able to get the ball inside and finish nicely in the paint tonight," DeHaan said. "I was really pleased with our effort on the boards on both ends."
Lynden Christian was able to outrebound University Prep 40-22 and was led by Tiemermsa and Sara Dougan, who each grabbed 10.
The Lyncs took a 33-15 lead at halftime, but were able to outscore University Prep 30-6 in the second half.
"We were able to take care of the mistakes we made in the first half and play better position defense in the third quarter," DeHaan said.
