George Boggs, Whatcom Conservation District's executive director, was recognized as "2012 National Conservation District Professional" by the National Conservation District Employees Association, and was honored recently at the association's annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas.
Also for 2012, Boggs was named employee of the year by the Washington Association of District Employees, and he received the "District Employee Partnership Award" from the Washington State U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Whatcom Conservation District was named a "2012 Puget Sound Champion" by the Puget Sound Partnership for its habitat restoration program.
OTHER HONORS
Ric Peterson, a 1970 graduate of Bellingham High School, has been elected to The College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects. Peterson, who received a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Architectural Science degree from Washington State University, is a managing partner at Suyama Peterson Deguchi, a firm in Seattle. Fellowship is one of the highest honors the AIA can bestow upon a member.
Three Whatcom County students - Jack Chmelik, Christopher Shank and Nathan Wilson - were named to the 2012 autumn-semester Dean's List at The University of Montana, in Missoula.
Alyssa Brandland of Bellingham was named to the 2012 fall-term honor roll at Cushing Academy, a college preparatory school in Ashburnham, Mass.
U.S. Air Force Airman Kayhan Kazemi graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Kazemi is a 2010 graduate of Squalicum High School.
