SEVEN TO WATCH
ISAIAH GRAMBO
Sehome, sophomore
Made a big splash as a freshman during the postseason last year, as he made the state finals in both his individual events. He enters this year's state meet seeded eighth in the 50 freestyle and ninth in the 100 freestyle - different events than he swam last year.
PATRICK GREGORY
Sehome, senior
Gregory is the defending state champion in the 100 breaststroke, and has a good shot to repeat, as he enters with the top time in the field. He also is seeded seventh in the 50 freestyle and will be a huge part of the Mariners' relays.
RYLAN KORBY
Squalicum, senior
The Storm diver is the top returning placer from last year, as he finished second to graduated two-time champion Austin Fahrenholtz last year. Korby is seeded sixth, but look for the battle-tested veteran to rise. This year, he'll also be in the competition pool one event later in the 100 butterfly.
MARTIN SLOLEY
Bellingham, freshman
Sloley made this list not only because of what he is capable of this year, but as a glimpse into what could come in the next few years. The talented freshman is seeded ninth in the 200 freestyle and 10th in the 500 freestyle, meaning he has a shot to make the championship final in both.
ANDY SMALL
Sehome, senior
After placing fourth in the 200 individual medley last year, Small is seeded third as a senior, and he's less than a second off top-seeded Stephen Boden's time. Small also is seeded fourth in the 100 backstroke, a new state event for him this year, and will be vital on the Mariner relays.
CURRAN WILBOUR
Sehome, senior
Sehome's freestyle distance specialist is seeded highly in both the 200 free (third) and 500 free (fifth), and he'll look to build on his seventh-place finishes in each event last year. Wilbour also has a little bit of speed, and will play a big role in the Mariners' relays.
JAN WOLFISBERG
Lynden senior
Finished second in the 100 breaststroke at the Class 2A Northwest District Meet last week with a state-qualifying time that was the fifth-fastest in the state so far this year. He was part of the Lions' second-place 200 medley and fifth-place 200 freestyle relay, which also will compete at state.
