Bellingham police seek witnesses in teen's stabbing death

Published: February 13, 2013

BELLINGHAM - Police are looking for people who witnessed the fight that led to the stabbing death of a Bellingham teen early Saturday, Feb. 9.

A vehicle may have stopped at Samish Way and Fielding Avenue to remove a tree limb from the road at about 2 a.m., which is about 15 minutes before police responded to St. Joseph hospital for a report of a double stabbing that occurred at that intersection, according to the Bellingham Police Department.

Davonte Thompson, 17, died in surgery after being stabbed in the chest during the fight, and another 18-year-old man was stabbed in the face and head but left the hospital before his treatment was complete.

Geoff Spain, 21, was booked into Whatcom County Jail in connection with the stabbings. Police are still trying to piece together what happened to lead to the stabbings.

Anyone who was in that car - or any person with information - is asked to call Detective Dan Kelsh at 360-778-8611 or go online to make an anonymous tip at cob.org/tipline.nsf.
