The Sehome girls' basketball team was unable to hold on in its 37-29 loss to Cedarcrest at Cedarcrest High School on Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the second round of the Class 2A Northwest District Tournament.
Sehome moves into the consolation bracket where it will face Lynden on Thursday, Feb. 14, in a loser-out consolation second round game at Mount Vernon High School.
"We had a slow start at the beginning of the game, but we fought back," Sehome coach Kim Kirk said in a phone interview. "With about 5 minutes to go we were actually up and unfortunately they went on a 12-0 run and that was the game."
Sehome was down 18-12 at halftime, but was able to storm back and take a 229-25 lead before falling late in the game.
The Mariners (11-11) were led by Rachel Albert, who scored 13 points and had 15 rebounds and three assists, and Meagan McIntyre, who scored seven points.
"I thought our three seniors played hard tonight and they really didn't get any breaks and laid it all out on the floor," Kirk said. "We had good looks at the basket and it didn't fall for us and unfortunately it did for them."
