The Ferndale girls' basketball team was unable to come back in its 54-52 loss at Shorewood in the consolation second round of the Class 3A Northwest District Tournament.

With the loss Ferndale's (19-4) season is now officially over.

"They made six 3s and had a big lead to start the fourth quarter," Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said in a phone interview. "We made a good comeback and were down two with 15 seconds left. The girls played their heart out."

Ivy said Brooke Benson was able to shoot a 3-pointer but didn't make it. Taylor Reid was able to get the rebound but couldn't get a shot off.

The Golden Eagles were led by Linsey Honeycutt, who scored 11 points and had nine rebounds, and Benson and Reid, who each scored 10 points.

"It was a team effort fighting back from being down by 11," Ivy said. "We came back and had a chance to win it, we just could't put the ball in the basket well enough."
