The Bellingham Tennis Club in partnership with Bellingham High School senior tennis player Bella Hoyos will host the Smash Kawasaki Disease round robin doubles tournament from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17.
The tournament, which is a fundraiser and designed to create awareness for the disease, is the senior project for Hoyos, who was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease when she was 3. Kawasaki disease is a rare condition that occurs in young children and may affect the heart and sometimes damages coronary arteries and the heart muscle itself. It is the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children in the United States.
The tournament is open to teams of men, women, mixed and family of all age levels - A, B and C. The suggested donation is $20 per person, and entry includes free snacks and soda. The entry deadline is 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15. All proceeds from the tournament will go to Seattle Children's Hospital for research to fight Kawasaki disease.
