WWU women's golf team opens spring in sixth place

The Western Washington University women's golf team began the spring portion of its schedule Monday, Feb. 11, shooting 327, and is tied for sixth among 20 teams after first-day action at the Super San Diego Collegiate Golf Championship being held at the Riverwalk Golf Club.

The second and final round is Tuesday, Feb. 12.

Grand Canyon and Sonoma State are tied for the team lead at 315. WWU is in a four-way tied for sixth with Claremont Mudd Scripps, Cal State East Bay and Victoria, B.C.

"I thought they played better than they scored," WWU coach Bo Stephan said in a press release.

The Vikings were led by Claire Rachor, who is tied for 14th in medalist play after shooting 8-over par 80. WWU's Anna Bourland and Kristen Hansen are tied for 28th, each shooting 82. The Vikings' Kara Zitzman is tied for 35th (83), and Katya Case is tied for 44th (85).
