Published: February 9, 2013

The Lummi boys' basketball team was able to hold on to win 61-59 against Mountlake Terrace Cedar Park Christian and win the Class 1B Northwest District Tournament Championship at Mount Vernon Christian Friday, Feb. 8.

Lummi (18-3) moves on as the No. 1 seed in the Class 1B Tri-District Tournament and will play Tuesday, Feb. 12, against an opponent to be determined at Mount Vernon Christian.

"It was a great game, especially for a championship game, because it was exciting from the beginning till the end," Lummi coach Jerome Toby said in a phone interview. "We were able to get a stop at the end to win. I thought we did a really good job defensively and we knew they were going to be able to shoot the ball."

Lummi was led by Joe Brady and Jordan Deardorff, who each scored 11 points, and Willie Jones, who scored 10 points.

"Our guards did a really great job tonight and Dino Williams did a great job stepping in for us as the point guard," Toby said. "Our bigs did a good job keeping them off the glass. It was a great team effort tonight."
