District swim finals set as Sehome looks for repeat

Published: February 9, 2013

The Class 2A Northwest District swim field is set after the preliminaries finished Friday, Feb. 8, at Anacortes.

Sehome High School had three first-place finishers, which qualifies them as top seed going in to the finals on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Anacortes and hopes to repeat last season's success with another first-place finish at the tournament.

"Our 200 medley relay was solid and fast and had our fastest time this year," Sehome coach Don Helling said in a phone interview. "Andy Small finished first for us in the 200 IM and that will be a good solid battle tomorrow."

Helling said the best even for Sehome though was the 50 freestyle where the Mariners finished third, fourth and fifth.

Patrick Gregory swam it in 23.01 seconds to finish third, Isaiah Grambo finished fourth with a time of 23.42 and Josh Larson finished fifth with a time of 23.68.

Small finished the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.09, and was on the 200 medley relay with Gregory, Grambo and Isaac Day, as they finished in 1:44.73.

Lynden's Robby Knapp swam a 1:01.74 to finish fifth in the 100 butterfly, the fastest time for a Whatcom County swimmer.

Squalicum's Neall Koetje, Lucas Roberts, Jonathan Hegeberg and Andi DeKoster swam the 400 freestyle relay in 3:38.66 for third place.

Martin Sloley finished fifth in the 200 freestyle for Bellingham with a time of 1:59.24.
