The Sehome boys' basketball team relied on its bench as it came back in the second half to defeat Archbishop Murphy 77-56 in the first round of the Class 2A Northwest District Tournament on Friday, Feb. 8, at Archbishop Murphy High School.
Sehome (16-4) advances to the semifinals to play Lynden on Monday, Feb. 11, at Lynden High School.
"Archbishop came out with a lot of energy in the first half," Sehome coach A.J. LaBree said in a phone interview. "They were outhustling us and we got into some foul trouble. At half we talked about staying composed and came out in the third and really took control."
Sehome outscored Archbishop Murphy 23-7 in the third quarter to get the win.
The Mariners were led by Evan Miksovsky and Charlie Linneman, who each scored 17 points.
"I was really proud of the team with having three starters in foul trouble and fouling out in the fourth," LaBree said. "We battled through and had great support off the bench. Gabe Sanchez really stepped up and carried us in the fourth."
