I am voting no on Proposition 1, the Chuckanut Parks District. I believe the city misappropriated the funds to purchase this property. All of you who support this think it is "only $84 a year" for ten years, I'd like to ask each of you who support it if they would like to pick up my part of the $840, since they seem to be so generous with other people's money. When is my family's money going to be enough for you and the elitists who will sit on this non-governmental organization's board? I live in a humble, 90-year-old home. I am an at-home mom with a young child who has Down syndrome. Maybe that $840 isn't a big deal to those who put this together. It is to me! We have paid our property taxes and can see quite clearly what happened to the money. It was mismanaged like so many of the funds collected by the City of Bellingham. They drop fliers all over the hill asking us to give ourselves a "self-imposed" tax? They cherry picked the district to be taxed, then give themselves a pat on the back and an atta boy. I have to ask the question: Who do these people think they are? That's a rhetorical question. Feel free to drop the money in the mailbox. Thanks!
