The Mount Baker boys' basketball team lost 55-37 at King's High School in the semifinals of the Class 1A Northwest District tournament Thursday, Feb. 7.
With the loss Mount Baker moves to the consolation bracket where they will host the South Whidbey/Coupeville winner in the consolation second round in a winner-moves-on game.
"King's played pretty well and we just struggled to start the game," Mount Baker coach Rob Gray said in a phone interview. "But we had a great second quarter and cut the lead to one with 7 seconds to go and they hit a three."
Gray said the Mountaineers turned the ball over twice to start the second half and King's was able to capitalize on it to push the score.
The Mountaineers (7-15) were outscored in the second half 34-20.
Reuben Murashov led Mount Baker with 17 points, and Andrew Zender added six more.
Ty Munsell led the Mountaineers with six rebounds on the night.
"Reuben had a good game for us," Gray said. "We need to come out tomorrow and play hard and hopefully make good things happen."
