The Lummi boys' basketball team started out strong in its 63-50 win over Mount Vernon Christian in the second round of the Class 1B District tournament Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Lummi will play Tulalip Heritage on Friday, Feb. 8, for the 1B Northwest District championship at Mount Vernon Christian.
"I thought we came out and had a good start and everybody did well," Lummi coach Jerome Toby said in a phone interview. "We had pretty balanced scoring and did a good job on the defensive end limiting their high percentage shots. I was pleased with our defense."
The Blackhawks were led by Joe Brady, who scored 12 points. Earl Johnson, Willie Jones and Logan Toby each added 10 points for Lummi.
"We had a lot of guys putting the ball in the basket," Toby said. "It was a good team win on the road and we will be ready for our next opponent."
