The Mount Baker girls' basketball team responded with a strong fourth quarter in a 55-40 victory over visiting Friday Harbor in a Class 1A Northwest District Tournament first-round consolation game on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
The win sends the Mountaineers (10-12) to the next round where they will play Nooksack Valley on Friday, Feb. 8.
"Our girls don't have quit in them," Mount Baker coach Brenda Ellis said in a phone interview. "They really got after it in the fourth quarter."
The Mountaineers were up by just one point heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring Friday Harbor 21-7 the rest of the game.
"It was close all the way until midway in the fourth quarter," Ellis said. "Everybody did something huge for us. It was nice to see everyone get involved."
Emily Yost scored a team-high 20 points for Mount Baker. Emily Brandland and Emma Lallas each scored 10 points for the Mountaineers.
