The Blaine girls' basketball team couldn't hold on and lost on a last-second 3-pointer in its 34-32 loss at King's High School in the second round of the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Blaine will host the winner of the Coupeville and South Whidbey game Friday, Feb. 8, in the third round of the consolation bracket.
"We got off to a good start and made some shots and played good defense," Blaine coach Ryan Pike said in a phone interview. "We had a decent lead at halftime and then we just went cold and made only one field goal. You won't win a lot of games in the postseason only making one field goal in the second half."
The Borderites (16-6) were led by Mandy Hayes, who scored 12 points, and Alexis McElwain, who scored seven.
