Jessica Alvarez, 18, of Bellingham was one of six Distinguised Finalists for Prudential Spirit of Community awards in Washington state. The volunteer-service awards for middle- and high-school students nationwide are sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals. The top two winners in Washington were from Vancouver and Seattle.
Joshua Godfrey of Ferndale was named to the 2012 fall-semester Dean's List at Northwest Nazarene University, in Nampa, Idaho.
Jerome Schwartz, a 1999 graduate of Sehome High School, has written several episodes of the new TV show "Zero Hour," which premiers at 8 p.m. Feb. 14 on ABC. Schwartz wrote episodes five and 10, co-wrote episode seven, and received credit for the season-ending episode 13. He previously was a writer for the CBS show "Cold Case."
