The Lynden boys' basketball team finished off the regular season with a 66-47 Northwest Conference win Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Sedro-Woolley to finish 19-1 overall and 12-0 in league.
John Shine had 17 points, Zach Vis had 15 points, Jaremy Martin had 14 points and three assists and Scott Hastings had six points and 10 rebounds for the Class 2A defending state champions.
The Lions jumped out to a 28-6 first-quarter lead but the Cubs ate away at that lead through the second and third quarter until Lynden took the fourth quarter 16-9 and won the game.
"We had a terrific first quarter but give Sedro credit," Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview. "They hung in there and found some rhythm offensively and made a game out of it."
Now comes the Class 2A District 1/2 Tournament, which has the No. 1 seeded Lions hosting Sultan at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, and Roper said they are set for what they need to do in the postseason.
"Right now we want our guys to be fresh and hungry," Roper said. "Nobody's going to hand us anything so we need to go do what we do: execute and play with a lot of passion."
