Squalicum girls end season with loss

Published: February 6, 2013

The Squalicum girls' basketball team lost its season finale 43-36 on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Anacortes to end with a 4-16 overall record and a 3-9 record in the Northwest Conference.

Storm coach Mark Wright said it was difficult for his team to overcome a rough start to the game, in which it had three field goals in the first half.

"We just had a really difficult time shooting the ball in the first half," Wright said in a phone interview. "We came back within two points but turned it over a few times and they got to the free throw line a lot more times than us."

Janna Poradun had 12 points and eight rebounds and Lauren Eckert added 12 points for the Storm.

Wright said Squalicum is headed in the right direction.

"We had one win last year and were able to push that to four this year and we are just going to continue to keep rising and getting better," Wright said. "I want my team to know I love them to death and it was an honor to coach them this year."
