Police: Teen threatened at gunpoint at Bellingham party

Published: February 4, 2013

BELLINGHAM - A 19-year-old Kirkland man was threatened at gunpoint this weekend when he got into a fight at a Bellingham party, police said.

The fight broke out at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb 2, after some people were asked to leave a party in the 600 block of North Garden Street, said Bellingham police spokesman Mark Young. Officers later spoke with a teen who said during the outdoor brawl a man whipped out a dark semiautomatic pistol, pointed it at the teen's head and threatened to shoot him.

No shots were fired and nobody suffered serious injuries in the fight. A 23-year-old witness corroborated the teen's story, Young said.

Police searched the area for a 5-foot-9 black man wearing a black-and-gray zip-up sweatshirt and dark jeans. Minutes later, a Washington State Patrol trooper came across a man matching that description on East Maple Street. The trooper ran after the man but lost sight of him in the 1200 block of Cornwall Avenue, Young said.

Anyone with tips should contact Bellingham police at 360-778-8800. After hours, call 911.
