Blazers finish weekend sweep of Tri-City in hockey action

The Bellingham Blazers faced the Tri-City Outlaws in the second of two weekend games Saturday, Feb. 2, winning 9-3.

The Blazers swept the weekend series by a combined score of 20-6 in junior hockey action.

The Blazers were paced by Cody Rich who had two goals and three assists, two goals from Mickey Turner and four assists from Scott Hansen.

Rich moved into second place in scoring in the NORPAC with 74 total points (39 goals, 35 assists) in 28 games this season.

"The boys competed very well tonight," Blazers coach Mark Collins said in a phone interview. "We remained very disciplined considering last night's result could have caused for a letdown. We stuck to our game plan defensively and shut down Tri Cities."

Bryce Kenning's goal 30 seconds into the first period on Saturday gave Bellingham momentum, which led 3-1 heading into the second period. Rich and Turner each scored in the second period to help the Blazers build a 6-1 lead and go on to win.

The Blazers take on the Eugene Generals on Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 at the Sportsplex. Both games stsart at 7:35 p.m.
